Bariatric Group Counseling
Studies have shown that those who attend support groups are more successful after weight loss surgery than those who don’t. Patients that participate in group counseling learn the following:
- CBT tools to deal with negative stinkin’ thinkin’ to promote healthy self- esteem,
- identify self- defeating behaviors and ways to deal with them,
- gain an understanding of the relationship between food and feelings,
- learn stress management strategies,
- fight head hunger and transfer addictions,
- deal with changing body image, relationship changes, and more.
Group members also have the opportunity to share their transformation story, obtain support and encouragement, exchange ideas and resources in a smaller group environment. Group members experience a place of belonging and unconditional acceptance during the weight loss journey.
